Sudie Marcuse is well known as an oratorio soloist in Western Massachusetts, and as a specialist in historical performance throughout the New England region. Recent performances have included Haydn's St Cecilia Mass as a guest soloist with the Newton Choral Society, Mozart's Missa Brevis in F, K.192 with the Choir of the Church of the Advent, and J.S. Bach's Magnificat with the Hampshire Choral Society. Past performances with HCS include J.S. Bach's Mass in B Minor and St. John Passion, Haydn’s St. Cecilia Mass, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D and Vesperae Solennes de Dominica, and Brahms’ German Requiem. With the Advent Choir she has been soloist in masses by Leighton, Vaughan Williams, and Mozart. As a soloist with the Arcadia Players Baroque Orchestra for fourteen seasons, she performed Monteverdi's Vespers, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Magnificat, Lully’s Te Deum, Handel’s Lucretia, and the leading role of Eupaforice in Carl Heinrich Graun’s opera Montezuma, in addition to Handel’s Messiah almost every year. As a founding member of The Singers’ Project, she was soprano soloist in Poulenc’s Mass in G and Britten’s Hymn to St. Cecilia. As guest soloist with City Singers of Hartford she sang Monteverdi’s Vespers and Selva Morale e Spirituale, and with the Greater Westfield Choral Association she has performed Haydn’s St. Nickolas Mass and Mozart’s Coronation Mass.

Dr. Marcuse has given numerous recitals throughout New England, appearing on the Trinity College Summer Chamber Music Series, Boston Early Music Festival Fringe, Mohawk Trail Concerts, Vaughan Recital Series at Dartmouth College, Village Chamber Music Series (Farmington, CT), the Wadsworth Atheneum musical lecture series (Hartford, CT), Keene (NH) Institute of Music, Providence (RI) Chamber Music Society concert series, and Smith College’s Faculty in Recital series. Recent recital programs have included songs with fortepiano by Haydn, Mozart, and J.C. Bach; songs with lute by Dowland and Danyel; music from the 18th century Jewish community; and the solo cantatas of J.S. Bach. Ms. Marcuse is also the founder of the ensemble Mirror of the Baroque, with which she has performed numerous programs of vocal and instrumental chamber music from the Baroque era.

Dr. Marcuse sings regularly with the Choir of the Church of the Advent in Boston and the professional quartet at Temple Shalom in Newton. She has sung with innumerable choirs across the region, including Capella Clausura, Cambridge Concentus, Canto Armonico, Cantata Singers, Collegium Musicum, Lorelei, Emmanuel Music, Trinity Church Boston, Novi Cantori, Cantabile, Capella Alamire, the New England Bach Festival, the Bach Aria Festival Choir, the Amherst Festival Choir, Five College Collegium, and CONCORA. 

Dr. Marcuse is also known for her interest in new music. She has premiered the works of several New England composers including Derek David, Jennifer Griffith, Robert Edward Smith, Joshua Stamper, Charles Turner, and Luna Woolf. She has performed on the Sunday Afternoons in Winter Composers Concert Series, the Springfield Women in Music concert series, with Juventas New Music Ensemble, and for the CUNY Composers’ Alliance.

Dr. Marcuse holds a DMA in Historical Performance from Boston University, an MM in Voice Performance from the University of Massachusetts, and a BA in Humanities from the University of Minnesota, and has taught at Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, Deerfield Academy, and Suffield Academy. Presently she teaches voice privately in the Boston, MA area.
